INFORMATION ABOUT THE COOKIES USED ON THE EUROPEAN FILM FACTORY PLATFORM

What is a cookie?

The term "cookies" refers to "all the tracers deposited and/or read, for example, when consulting a website, reading an e-mail, installing or using software or a mobile application", regardless of the terminal used. It is therefore information deposited (sometimes in a simple text file) on the hard disk of the user's receiving terminal by the server of the site or application. It may contain several data such as the name of the server that deposited it, an identifier in the form of a unique number, an expiry date. A server accesses it to read and record this information.

The roles of cookies

Cookies play several roles. They facilitate your navigation, store your preferences, make the interaction between you and the website faster and easier. Some cookies are linked to the site you are viewing, others depend on external sites that manage content on the page you are viewing (third-party cookies).

How do cookies from the European Film Factory platform work?

The Institut français places cookies on your terminal that are necessary for the functioning of the site. These cookies do not require your consent, and cannot be deactivated insofar as they are indispensable to the functioning of the European Film Factory site.

Advice about cookies

  • Block third party cookies. Third party cookies are usually not necessary to take advantage of the resources available on the Internet. If you wish to limit your tracks, it is recommended to refuse them by default.
  • Prevent the installation of the most common trackers. Many extensions allow you to block the various trackers. For example, for the Chrome browser, DoNotTrackMe, Disconnect, Ghostery...
  • Block social network share buttons. "When you visit sites with social network buttons, the social network buttons will be notified of your visit. It is therefore recommended that you block this tracking until you are willing to share the site you visit. This blocking of social network buttons such as Facebook, Twitter,... can be obtained using a free and open source software extension: "Privacy Badger".
  • Limit tracking in Adobe Flash. It is recommended to change these settings by logging into the online settings manager, but if the Flash site offers a disabling to prevent storage on computers, it does not work 100%. LSO (Flash) cookies resist the manipulation of deleting "traditional" cookies through the web browser. Rather than manually erasing LSO cookies, it is possible to download an extension to your browser that will allow you to delete them each time you close the browser. For example, Betterprivacy for Firefox.
